This is an odd one, and I can't seem to find anyone else who has had the exact same problem. I am running Gnome Shell and several times I have accidentally suspended Arch before logging in, while on the login screen, and it has woken up with no problem. However the other day I accidentally suspended it while properly logged in (I know I accidentally suspend a lot, it's that Gnome 3 menu....) and, again it woke up without a hitch.
However, since then, it will not wake up from a suspend, either on the login screen or when I'm logged in. I can hear it wake up the hard disk & fan but the screen stays black. If the laptop is plugged into AC power at this point then the backlight comes on, but it's still blank and unresponsive.
Nothing changed at all between the time it worked & the time it didn't - no updates, no nothing. Literally, I suspended by accident, woke it up, rebooted the computer, suspended on purpose, and it's stopped working. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I've tried all manner of suggestions to make it work, but at the end of the day surely I shouldn't have to change anything in my system at all because it used to work fine! /var/log/pm-suspend.log contains no errors, but it only logs the suspend and does not log even an attempt at waking up at all.
I wondered if perhaps it was due to my being logged in on my last successful suspend - perhaps it wrote something to the hard disk which prevented it from working again? I really don't know... *head-scratch*
