Installation of Cinnamon (muffin-git) - libGL.so error

Hi Everyone
I'm trying to install Cinnamon but keep running into this error when i try to compile muffin-git.

/usr/lib/libGL.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

I have a Nvidia Geforce 9600GT using the proprietary Nvidia drivers from their site.
2GB RAM Nvidia motherboard
Arch x64

Does it need to have the nvidia driver package installed instead of the proprietary one?
