fvwm 2.6.4 crashes

About a month ago, the Arch repos got fvwm 2.6.4. Ever since I upgraded, fvwm has been crashing for me. Almost all of the crashes have been during browser tab operations: closing, creating or switching tabs. This happens with Firefox AND Chromium! Sometimes, the crash will be accompanied by a line in the kernel log, like these:

fvwm[1686]: segfault at 6b6e6f49 ip b7262bf6 sp bff5c090 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b71eb000+19c000]
fvwm[19600] general protection ip:7f03d5814894 sp:7fffc3ac5988 error:0 in libc-2.15.so[7f03d5799000+195000]

... but sometimes there will be no log line at all! When I asked #fvwm, they blamed Arch, citing a packaging error or libc incompatibility. I tried recompiling fvwm myself from ABS on a fully updated system, but that binary would crash just the same. Downgrading to 2.6.3 from schlunix has actually fixed the crashing, but leads to another problem: when running 2.6.3 now, my fvwm error log will fill up with this line over and over:

Warning: select failed. Error code 5.

The log will grow to 300+MB before I have to delete it and restart X just to save disk space.

Given all this, so far I have not found a sustainable workaround, nor do I understand what the root cause is. Does anyone else here use fvwm on Arch, who hasn't had this problem?
