Problems with ATI Rage 128 video card

I have an ATI Rage 128 video card. I've installed 'xf86-video-ati' and 'xf86-video-r128' packages, but when I 'start X' the display fades into black and the system freezes.
This is the Xorg.0.log

maybe the r128 driver needs some further fixes for Xorg 1.12

Re: Problems with ATI Rage 128 video card

For now only downgrading X helps.

The following sequence did the trick for me (given you didn't delete the packages
in the pacman cache):

cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg
pacman -U xorg-server-common-1.11.4-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -U xf86-input-evdev-2.6.0-4-i686.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -U xorg-server-1.11.4-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -U xf86-input-keyboard-1.6.1-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -U xf86-input-mouse-1.7.1-2-i686.pkg.tar.xz
pacman -U xf86-video-r128-6.8.1-7-i686.pkg.tar.xz r128-dri-7.11.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz libgl-7.11.2-1-i686.pkg.tar.xz

Of course trouble starts when updating the system next time. :-)

Re: Problems with ATI Rage 128 video card

I deleted them unfortunately. Could you send these packages to any file sharing server?

Yes, andreas_baumann, could you upload those packages somewhere and give us the download link?

Thanks!

Same problem here. Has anyone filed an upstream bug report for xf86-video-r128?

There is a new r128 driver. Anyone tried it with new xorg server?

That's 3d support, not 2d. And even 3d can be made to work: compile the dri driver from mesa 7.11 source, then recompile the 2d driver with --enable-dri.

Oh you're right. So out-of-repos for cards like rage there is still driver (xf86-video-r128 in this case) which is still maintained and it's working with new xorg? So only 3D is lost out-of-box?
