I'm trying to mount a blank dvd for burning. Here is what I'm trying
$ sudo mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
(could this be the IDE device where you in fact use
ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?)
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
and I also tried
$ sudo mount -t auto /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom/
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/sr0: can't read superblock
Maybe this means something too (seems like I have write permission
$ ls -l /dev/sr0
brw-rw----+ 1 root optical 11, 0 Mar 17 14:53 /dev/sr0
According to this thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=129254, I shouldn't have to mount the blank dvd, and that the disk-burning app (i.e. DeVeDe) should handle it. But no such luck. After converting the video files, I get a dialog that says "Job Done!" with two buttons: one that says "Burn" and is greyed out (can't click it) and one that says "Ok" which just closes the dialog. I'd be willing to try another app if someone can recommend one (ManDVD?).
I've looked around in Google, but nothing is working for me. Any help?

Frig. I'm quite sure the problem is that DeVeDe itself does not support burning. It creates the iso just fine, but you need to use a separate program to actually burn it to disk www.majorsilence.com/devede_faq I'm guessing that this is my problem, but could someone confirm?
Also, can someone recommend a nice lightweight iso burning software that works for both cds and dvds?
Thanks.

You can't mount a blank disc because it contains no filesystem.
Just run the app that can burn images and let it do everything.

Hello,
The Arch Wiki is a gold mine. Always take the time to search in it
This page should answer all your lightweight apps needs.

The 'Lightweight apps' wiki article redirects to 'Common apps' now. The page is rather big, so a direct link doesn't hurt: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ning_Tools

Thanks guys.
I tried ManDVD. The interface looks kinda screwed up, but intuitive enough. The DVD wasn't recognized by any DVD players or my computer either. So I used DeVeDe to make the iso, then xfburn to burn it. That worked, but the quality of the video is really choppy. I tried it in Nero 7 on Winblows, and the video is significantly smoother. I was hoping for a good native linux app for dvd authoring, but so far my options don't look good.
I seem to remember using tovid in Ubuntu back in the day, and I remember it working pretty good. But tovid doesn't seem to be in the Arch repos. I also see Bombono in the AUR http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41668. Does anyone have any experience with Bombono? Is it any good? Thanks
