I just updated slim and awesome by way of yaourt (which seems to be broken) and while i can access by the hard drive on the live CD, i can't actually get to a usable on the systm itself.
Slim opens up with the default theme and when I log in, I see the background of the default awesome theme, and then I'm thrown back out to slim.
I'm not sure where to start debugging this.

Edit: Thank you #archlinux people, i have access to my main install and can do things now.
Namely Chroot lets you change the root
So after mounting the harddrive of the broken install,
cd <root>
chroot ./ suand then you have a root terminal on your main machine
and from there I could install slim and do other things of use
