[SOLVED] Beginner trying to boot to LiveCD to no avail

I have searched, looked in the beginner wiki and FAQs and can not find an answer to this problem:

I have Ubuntu installed and when I try to boot to the i686 live CD for Arch, it will not boot. I am trying to format the machine and install arch from scratch using the beginner install guide.  There is a small pause (2 seconds) where you hear the CD spinning and then it immediately jumps into Grub with just my installed Ubuntu distro available to select.

While searching, I found a ton of problems (and noticed in the beginner install guide) that a lot of users experience freezing or blank screens during boot of the CD.  I do not have that problem.  It just waits a few seconds (while on a blank screen) and then jumps to Grub.  It never freezes and stays on a blank screen.

I know the disc is good (burned two of them from my Mac and then burned a Linux Mint CD all on the slowest speed with the same CD media) and Linux Mint will boot fine from CD (I have the CD drive as my first boot device and it is an internal drive).

Not sure what else to try.  Any suggestions?

Thank you all so much in advance for your help.
Chris

better try this one: http://archbang.org/

Moderator warning:  That link is to a non-Arch Linux site.

I will try another PC when I get home. Have not tried that yet because mint live cd works fine.

The drive is 5 years old. It's the stock drive on my HP NC6320 laptop. Thanks for your helpful reply.

Try another medium then. For instance, USB sticks are dirt cheap now. You can find 4 GB for as little as 5 €. Personally I think I haven't burned a disc since 2007 or so.

Welcome to the forums.

Archgameron2,
I presume that anyone one this site is trying to install Arch Linux, not a different Linux Installation.  Yes, we know that you are an Archbang user, that is fine.  Do not try to deceive members of this site into thinking that Arch Linux == Archbang.

You have been told repetitively that these are not the Archbang forums. If you continue, the moderators will suspend your account.

Re: [SOLVED] Beginner trying to boot to LiveCD to no avail

I figured it out (kinda).

I tried the CD on another PC and id did not work.  So I did the USB method and it is working fine.  Thanks to everyone for their help.

Now on to the actual install process...
