Hi all,
I'm currently using Midori as I have a relatively slow computer. I'd like to set up something that hides who I am online. I'm a newbie to this, but I've heard about Tor. Could this be a solution, and if so, could someone explain how to set it up? And what is polipo, and do I need it?
Alternatively, Tor may not be the best for me. Does anyone know of other solutions. Can I get a program that hides my IP etc, having the same effect as Tor?
Cheers.

Tor definitely sounds like what you are looking for.

Another possibility is to use a vpn server in a different country than yours (that's what I'm using now). The traffic between your computer and the server is encrypted. Of course its not hidden that you are accessing a vpn server, but tor probably also has that defect. Look here:

The performance will probably be significantly better than tor, while the security is a bit less. But I bet most countries don't have the resources to be leaning on the owners of a server farm in Netherlands (for example). I use a Netherlands server because that country has good privacy laws.

Hmmm, I read through the articles you mentioned and then started looking at VPNs. In both cases it seems that while your affair may be kept private from the general public, you're trusting certain servers etc way too much. Especially if I go online and bank...
