Display problem with wine+xfce+arch

I have to run a windows program in wine. This program has a main window in which images are being displayed one after the other, resulting in animation. But if I simultaneously open a dialog box (for setting options) of the program and move it around, multiple dialog boxes appear since the earlier images of dialog box do not get cleared properly. There is no problem if I stop the main window animation. Also this problem occurs when I run this program in xfce in Arch linux. There is no problem if I run this program in gnome2 in ubuntu.

Is this same as flickering? Where is the problem: windows program, wine, xfce or Arch? How can I get rid of this problem?

Did you try enabling compositing?

Re: Display problem with wine+xfce+arch

I realized that this problem is occuring only on a computer which has nvidia card (Geforce 210). The nouveau and libgl was installed on it. I downloaded the driver from nvidia site and tried to install it. I removed the libgl and nouveau packages. However, nvidia gave error that it cannot find linux kernel sources. I am trying to correct this by searching for it in the wiki etc. Any help will be appreciated.

You probably need linux-headers.

Re: Display problem with wine+xfce+arch

I have run into another problem now. I am not able to install any package through pacman. For every package it is giving error:

failed to commit transaction (wrong or NULL argument passed)

I read up related posts and tried to overcome this error by commenting out ftp mirrors in the mirrorlist file and also by avoiding kernel.org mirror, but of no help. There is also no .part file in /var/cache/pacman/pkg folder.

In the meantime I am on a limited display with no nouveau and libgl. Videos show garbled image at start but become all right after first few seconds. Resolution is 1024x768.

Re: Display problem with wine+xfce+arch

Problem solved. Pacman error went away with 'pacman -Syy' command.
Display problem disappeared with installation of nvidia and nvidia-utils (libgl had to be removed with 'pacman -Rdd' command).

Re: Display problem with wine+xfce+arch

It's always good practice to sync before doing anything with pacman.
