Ok I did some research and still can't figure out why writing/reading speed is so slow in practice

Timing buffered disk reads: 336 MB in 3.01 seconds = 111.58 MB/secWith dd I get ~10 MB/s (dd if=/dev/zero of=/test bs=100M count=10)
Internally copy from mc 5-6 MB/s
I did multiple tests

I booted this drive from another computer (Asrock M3A770DE mobo) and works fine, speed with dd was ~100MB/s
I also update bios on my first computer with Intel D945GSEJT (there is selected AHCI mode) still the same transfers with dd (~10Mb/s)
I have no idea what to do with it now ![]()

More tests with other hdd (Samsung HD502IJ), dd on mounted NTFS partition:

Have you tried another hard disk in the slow computer/a live CD? Try to narrow down the problem, find out whether it is the system or the BIOS...

I tried two hard disk in slow computer: Samsung HD502IJ and Seagate LP, checked with both IDE an AHCI mode for sata in BIOS, and I tried "load defualt" setting too ![]()
Everytime I get ~10MB/s with dd and 75-110Mb/s with hdparm (also checked with kernel 3.0.3 and 3.2.13)

The intel motherboard is a mini-ITX motherboard designed for an atom processor, while the asrock motherboard targets gaming users and an AMD AM3 proc .
in short, the intel mobo / proc is not powerful enough to use the drives at full speed.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?

This Atom must be really poor
on Pentium 4 1,9Ghz with ATA hdd i've got:
hdparm: 40 MB/s
dd: 19 MB/s
I thought Atom should be a little better than low P4

The huge popularity of the intel atom is always been a bit of a mistery to me.
if you look at power procs like the Via C series performed the same and used less power.
Performance wise both Intel's and AMD's low power variations of their normal cpu lines performed way better, and the difference in power comsumption was not big.
as for the low P4 : the original Pentium 4 with DDR between 1.8 Mhz and 2.8 Mhz were decent processors. If that low P4 has rambus memory, it was a top model in it's day.
Atom has never been a top model.

Wait a sec. The Atom is not a fast CPU but it is not that slow. It may also outperform a P4. Here are the results from my netbook:
Timing cached reads: 1644 MB in 2.00 seconds = 821.99 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 720 MB in 3.01 seconds = 239.35 MB/secand
1048576000 Bytes (1,0 GB) kopiert, 6,58513 s, 159 MB/s

PS: I tested each one three times; the results are stable.
