I'm having issues, my digital device works, I hear audio, but only out 2 channels, firstly I need this issue fixed, the second issue is I need it mixxed, apparently it's not possible to do this with dmix, so I'm in the boat where I have no surround sound (6 channels) and no multi program audio.
When I set my ~/.asoundrc file to dmix the device, it allows me to use it in multiple programs, however the audio is not coming through all all 6 channels. (That's the point where the person in IRC said dmixing doesn't work for digital optical devices).
If you need clarification on anything, feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance.
Note to mods: My last thread is redundant, the issue is different now, thanks.

I think optical connections can only do DTS and Dolby formats in 5.1 because they are compressed formats. Can't physically go past 2.1 without going coaxial. What kind of files are you trying to play? Did they work before? Are you sure your amp is set for 5.1? Try pulseaudio?

The box it connects to accepts DTS amd Dolby, I want to use it as the system wide sound output, so as many files that it can play -.- Never worked, this is my first time using arch. Not sure how to set my amp to 5.1? I couldn't get any support in pulse audio's irc, I don't know where to start, I couldn't find anything on the wiki.

Yes, I dmixed the device and it works with multiple apps, I tested this with speaker test also. Speaker-test does not use all 6 channels of the speaker however. (Everything is unmuted in alsamixer)
