VLC web fail (lua/http/rc)

The people at VLC told me this was a distribution problem. Neither the mobile apps remote control or the web interface work, even locally.

When i launch VLC from the terminal i get

[0x89ea8f0] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.

from VLC's message logs i noted "main debug: removing module "lua""

I can reproduce in 2.0.1 and 2.1.0

Correction: in 2.1.0 VLC crashes on launch when you attempt to use lua control interface.
My lua and system are up to date.
