[GNOME3.4] weird apps menu display

I have [testing] enabled on the desktop and the laptop, both running gnome 3.4 on the laptop everything looks as expected, on the the desktop the apps menu looks like this:

Any ideas what's wrong ? Both, desktop and laptop only have 1 extension installed and active, the alternative status menu to have a shutdown option without pressing alt.

pacman -Sf gnome-shell

try if it works.
