sudo mailerflags and ssmtp

I can't get sudo to send me notification emails via ssmtp unless I use:

Defaults mailerflags=-t

However, man sudoers quite clearly states that -t is the default for mailerflags anyway.

Anyone else having this problem?  I saw a thread from another Archer in the wilds but can't see anything on the forums.
