Resolution wonked after update?

The power went off at some point today, and after I boot up my screen resolution is messed up. Probably an issue with an update, but I'm not sure which once because I haven't had to reboot in some time. I don't think it's an xorg problem, because my console resolution is messed up as well; It only takes up the top-left quarter of the screen. I suppose it's possible that it's a seperate issue. Anyway, the default resolution in X seems to have switched from 1280x1024 to 1024x768. When I change it with xrandr, I think my DPI is off because the fonts are huge. It changes from 96x96 at 1024x768 to 120x128. I'm not getting any error messages in Xorg.0.log.

Re: Resolution wonked after update?

Setting dpi with xrandr seems to be the work around for my font issue, at least. I'm not sure what to do about the console.

Please give us some info, like what videocard and drivers you use.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Re: Resolution wonked after update?

I suppose that is KMS issue, and KMS initializes the display driver on boot with improperly resolution. Result as above. I can see boot process to udev start, and after that I cant see anything on the console screen beyond black screen and many other colors - characteristic to improper resolution.

Re: Resolution wonked after update?

My temporary solution:

Switch off KMS (nomodeset=1) in the kernel line

Boot system without KMS. Now I can log to my account. Unfortunately I cant start X on the nouveau driver too.
Second step - uninstall nouveau, and nouveau-dri
Disable KMS permanently in menu.lst
Install xf86-video-nv
reboot
-------------------------------
I know that is temporary solution, and alreade seek why KMS and Nouveau was stopped working
