VMWare: nic drivers?

I've had arch running successfully in vmware for a while now (version 8), but I hop in the other day and my nic isn't being detected.  I'm not sure if it's due to an update in arch or an update in vmware, I didn't catch the issue immediately as it's a specific dev environment.

lspci -v | grep "Ethernet controller"

02:01.0 Ethernet controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] 79c970 [PCnet32 LANCE] (rev 10)

I've re-installed open-vm-tools.  If I try to ping my router directly I get a "network is unreachable".  I'm able to ping the same address from the host machine.

Any ideas?
