[AwesomeWM] tagging client/windows with numbers

hey,

iam searching a way to tag clients in awesome with numbers and select them via something like ctrl + number.
the number should be displayed in the tasklist or instead of the clienticon.

i think this mod is not that easy and dunno where to start. maybe some1 already did this before or is interested in that idea and wants to help?
