Gnome shell goes to fallback mode after todays upgrade - I suspeced console kit and downgraded it but to no avail
I think its a d-bus issue , because I can run gnome-shell --replace from my user account and the shell loads up
but on running from root I get this error
** (gnome-shell:1914): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_new_for_name: assertion `connection != NULL' failed
** (gnome-shell:1914): CRITICAL **: dbus_g_proxy_call: assertion `DBUS_IS_G_PROXY (proxy)' failed
Segmentation fault
I even tried downgrading udev but that does not help.
Anyone else face the same problem

I dont know if this is related but running dbus-monitor as root does not work
Failed to open connection to session bus: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
Is this related ?

Fixed after latest consolekit update

What update was that?
I have the same problem it happened both in the LTS kernel and in the default kernel (That I cannot use due to the ath9 wpa_supplicant wifi problem).
I can enter the shell with gnome-shell --replace but it flickers so much that it is almost useles.
I have an Acer aspire 5250 Amd Radeon.
Edit:
I just realized I have consolekit 0.4.6-1, so I will probably only have to wait for consolekit 0.4.6-2 to hit the repos

Ok got mine to work. What i did was remove console kit with pacman -Rdd consolekit then i just installed it again. with pacman -S consolekit seems to work now...could have been a coincidence, not sure but it worked.lol

I can confirm that this worked for me while gnome-shell --replace only produced a flickering mess that crashed.
it did require a restart, not just killing gnome and restarting it though.
now if only i hadn't been playing oolite when it happened.
