Hello,

i hope you can help. Since my last update i have a problem to supend to disk my computer. I use the s2disk -feature.
but now the following error occurs:

check_free_swap failed. Reason: Inappropriate ioctl for device.
no swap space for suspend.

When i look if the swap is available i can see it

total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:       3235732    2708808     526924          0       9556    1567568
-/+ buffers/cache:    1131684    2104048
Swap:      5068472         44    5068428

in dmesg i see the following message:

[ 4960.365187] PM: Marking nosave pages: 000000000009d000 - 0000000000100000
[ 4960.365202] PM: Basic memory bitmaps created
[ 4960.527889] PM: Basic memory bitmaps freed
[ 4960.527902] video LNXVIDEO:01: Restoring backlight state

i hope you can tell me whats wrong and show me the solution.

Re: s2disk doesn't work

Firstly, I would make the comment that uswsusp (s2disk and s2ram) is no longer maintained. pm-utils (pm-suspend and pm-hibernate) is a superior system, which uses the kernel modules, uswsusp or tuxonice. With the kernel modules, I had no configuration necessary for my laptop. s2disk can mess up wifi or sound sometimes, so I'd say change if possible.

That said, I'd say this is missing or incorrect in your /etc/suspend.conf:

resume device = /dev/disk/by-label/swap

Otherwise, it might not be something that can be easily solved. I clung to uswsusp for ages, but there's no real point in doing that. The kernel modules are better.

See: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Uswsusp and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm-utils
