[SOLVED] Trouble running xorg as non root.

Hi,

I followed the following docs:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … figuration
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … and_tricks

and managed to run Xorg by running xinit as root and everything works fine.

But when I attempt to start Xorg as a non root user, I momentarily get a resize of screen resolution and I am back at the TTY with a message
xinit: Connection to X server lost.

trying cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log| grep EE does not show lines with errors.

I am unable to proceed any further to get Xorg to work. Kindly point me the right direction.

Thank you.

PS: I am running this on vmware workstation.

What's your ~/.xinitrc?

Windows != Linux

.xinitrc
Sorry for the screenshot. I still do not have a way to copy from the VM :-(

As root I get an xterm. And I type startkde in the xterm window to start kde. I would like to keep it the same for the unprivileged user.

Re: [SOLVED] Trouble running xorg as non root.

Solved it. The .xinitrc was the problem. I checked the .xinitrc for root. It did not exist. So I deleted the .xinitrc for the unprivileged user too. This got X.org to get up and running with xterm :-)
