machine takes a LONG time to enter and wake from suspend

Hi all,

Having a weird problem which I'm hoping someone may be able to shed some light on. When I set my machine to suspend using pm-suspend (or dbus-suspend), the screen blanks, the disks park, the keyboard and mouse go dead.... but then there's a gap of about a minute or more before the machine actually goes into a powered down state. When waking, the disks spin up, the screen returns, but then there's a gap of about a minute before the keyboard and mouse become active. Kernel logs and pm-suspend.log don't seem to show anything untoward - everything seems to be running correctly except for this inexplicable wait time of 60+ seconds. (I'm not at home at the moment, so can't post logs yet, but will get some up when I can).

Now, at the beginning of April, suspend worked fine, and instantly. I have installed a few packages since then, and I haven't been checking the suspend functionality after every install, so I can't pinpoint if there's a specific package which may have caused the issue.

There was a Kernel update in between the working suspend and the non-working suspend. From reading various threads on this forum and others, I've seen that kernel updates have broken suspend in the past - Is anyone else having this issue?

Here's what I've tried: Disabling HPET in my bios, adding all of my modules to SUSPEND_MODULES in /etc/pm/config.d/module and removing each one at a time to try to pinpoint the culprit, numerous suspend hooks in sleep.d (again, not at home so can't give a full list yet). Tried using pm-suspend and dbus-suspend, same issue.

Interestingly it seems that the long delay on wake only happens the first time the machine is woken from suspend. The long delay is still present on subsequent suspend actions, but the wake delay is only there the first time the machine is woken. Not sure iff this is relevant or not. I'm running Openbox as my WM (although the problem still occurs even if X is not started, so not sure how relevant it is. clutching at straws here).

Now, suspend functionality is not something I can't live without, but it would be nice to have it working properly, and there's the "itch" I get when something's not working when to all intents and purposes it should. I don't like unsolved problems. Any help that anyone can give will be greatly appreciated. (any logs or additional info can be provided after Friday as that's when BT has deigned to switch on my phone line)

It's affine day for a new sig:

Re: machine takes a LONG time to enter and wake from suspend

Right, as promisede, here are some logs, which may shed some light to some people (although they didn't help me any.

We'll start with pm-suspend.log:

I'm really at a loss as to what is causing this. I will be very grateful to anyone who can help, but I'm at the point now where I'm ready to give up and just accept that I probably won't be able to use suspend.

EDIT: before I forget, here's my uname -a:

and specifics of my machine:
Motherboard: ASUS P5N
CPU - Intel E8400
Graphics - Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+ 512
4Gb Corsair RAM
