I can't boot past "triggering uevents..." after upgrading my system. I get the same error trying to boot the installer from usb disk.
I've tried disconnecting everything except kb, monitor, hard drives. Also tried setting noapic acpi=off edd=off to no avail.
What could be going on?

Got around it with the following kernel parameters:
acpi=off noapic nolapic nodmraid nomodeset
not sure which in particular made the difference, but acpi=off and noapic alone did not help
