[SOLVED] XFCE 4.10 icons too far to the left?

Hello everyone,

This is Cylinder57 here, and this is my first post.

When you install XFCE 4.10, you'll notice that icons such as sound and clock are moved way too much to the left of the screen.  It's as though XFCE 4.10 wants to crunch every icon to the left!

This is mentioned before in this topic:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=140659 (See post 2)

The good thing is, the solution is actually quite simple.

1. Right-click XFCE menu, place your mouse on or over "Panel," and click on Panel Preferences.

2. See "Display, Appearance, Items"?  Click on Items.

3. Add a separator.

4. Edit the currently selected item.

5. Tick the "Expand" box and change the style to "Transparent".  Close the window.

6. Move the separator between "Window Buttons" and whatever plugin you want to the right of the screen (e.g. Mixer.)

This way, your XFCE menu should look more sane.

Hah!  That'll teach me not to read your post.  I thought you were asking for help on how to do it.  I'll leave the image anyway.

Cylinder57... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I thought the latest xfce update had borked my panel for good. Your simple fix worked wonderfully for me. Thanks, again!

Yeah, thanks for that info, I was also bugged by that. Now if someone could tell me how I make the sound settings icon reappier in the notification area(which disappeared since the 4.10 update), I'm happy again

Volume control and Notification area are independent items.

Figure out why the percentages on the battery monitor plugin on a vertical bar are now rotated sideways with no option to rotate them again?

Thanks for this valuable infiormation, as if I couldn't have guessed that (sorry for beeing sarcastic, but your post has ZERO informational value for me).
Of course it is independent, but it doesn't change the fact that it isn't there anymore and I couldn't find the xfce package (which probably isn't installed yet) responsible for it.

....
Ok, found it -_-. In previous versions this was more intuitive, and why the hell did they change the plugin behaviour? I liked the volume control popup more than opening the whole mixer tool.

Did you try changing the panel mode from “Vertical” to “Deskbar”?

Hell, now the window buttons are little and "right side up". Looks like they forgot to add a few options I'm guessing. I appreciate it though, I was just kind of kidding really. I'd rather have the window buttons the right way and the percentages rotated rather than the other way around.

Come to think about it, I guess what they did to the text as a vertical bar makes more sense as an integrated whole.

Hello everyone,

I haven't logged on in 5 days, so I didn't really reply to the posts on the topic.

If anyone is misled by the title, thinking that I need help rather than that I am giving help, I'm sorry about that.  I wanted to keep my title compact.  I guess next time, I’ll add “Solution!” to the title.

Anyways, I'll mark this as solved.  I'm not sure if the individual problem with the volume control in this post is cosidered "solved."

Cylinder57,                Thank You.  I found your post while Googling and had to join the forum just to give you props.  (It took me another half-hour of googling to figure out the challenge answer.)
I actually don't use Arch, but your solution also works on Sid 64bit Xfce.     http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/preferences told me to use an expandable separator as described above.  But no description could be found.
Thanks again!
