I was trying to install Arch on my HP Pavilion 742c today and I ran into a predicament with the wireless card. I downloaded the zd1211 package off the Arch website, placed it on a flash drive, mounted it, and ran 'pacman -U zd1211*', which proceeded to install the firmware. I went to setup and everything went fine until network configuration (after installing the firmware, I ran iwconfig to setup wireless). The wireless card is a Belkin FD7050 based on a zd1211 chip.
Error at bottom of screen during setup:
usb 1-4: Could not load firmware file zd1211/zd1211b_ub. Error number -2
zd1211rw 1-4:1.0: couldn't load firmware. Error number -2
Setup references looking at tty7 for error details, and this is what I see (from network configuration forward):
dia_ask_option: ANSWER_OPTION: wlan0, returncode (skip/cancel): 0 (Interface selection)
disk_ask_yesno: User picked YES
inform: Please wait. Polling for DHCP server on wlan0...
dhcpcd: dhcpcd not running
dhcpcd: version 5.2.12 starting
dhcpcd: wlan0: up_interface: No such file or directory
dhcpcd: wlan0: waiting for carrier
dhcpcd: timed out
show_warning 'Dhcpcd problem': Failed to run dhcpcd. See /dev/tty7 for details. (msg)

Have you loaded the kernal module for your wireless driver. See this wiki page

Sorry for my delay in responding. I've been very busy recently.
Anyways, I went back and tried to run "modprobe -r zd1211rw," reconfigured the wireless in iwconfig and tried running dhcpcd.
I receive the same error message.

Okay, so I extracted the firmware's tar.xz file and copied the data into /lib/firmware. I ran dhcpcd after that, and now it just claims that no interfaces have a carrier...
