[SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

Hi,
I'm trying to get Samba running. I've followed the "Samba/Simple file sharing with KDE4" guide on the ArchWiki, but I got stuck at the last but one step - there is no filesharing control module:

[mike@Woland ~]$ kcmshell4 fileshare
Could not find module 'fileshare'. See kcmshell4 --list for the full list of modules.
[mike@Woland ~]$ kcmshell4 filesharing
Could not find module 'filesharing'. See kcmshell4 --list for the full list of modules.

Now when I try to set filesharing and click OK, nothing happens.

I've tried reinstalling samba and kdenetwork-filesharing with no luck. Any ideas?

That KCM was removed in KDE 4.7, the wiki is outdated. To configure sharing, right-click the folder you want to share and select "Properties"->"Sharing".

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

Oh, thanks for the info. Is there any way of undoing the changes I made following the wiki? When I try to configure filesharing (check the share box and give full control to "Everyone", then click OK), the folder is left unshared. (When I enter the share settings again, everything is unchecked.) I suspect it's because of the changes I've made?

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

That wiki page is really outdated.

Try this: look at the properties of a directory (Alt+Enter) - do you have a 'Share' tab? You're halfway thru.
Next check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sa … lder_fails

Edit: seems I'm responding to a stale page wink. No, those changes don't get saved anywhere AFAIK.

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

Yes, that worked. Thank you very much for the reply. The only problem I have now is how to configure Samba not to ask for any password when trying to connect to a share, I'll try to google that one. Thanks very much again.

You don't trust the wiki much now wink

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

Well I've tried pretty much everything described on that page and my PC still asks for a password. I'm trying to connect to it from a satellite settopbox and a password prompt keeps appearing. Not sure what's wrong.

Connect from the same machine with something like smb://localhost (works in Dolphin) and see how it works.

Yep, asks for a password. Whatever I enter is rejected. (tried my user & password and a guest account made with smbpasswd -an )

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

I guess the right thing to do now is to start with the default smb.conf file and follow the wiki page more closely: how to add samba users, the security model, etc.

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Could not find module 'fileshare'

Nah, I just got it solved :-) Originally, I was using the smb-guest samba user as the guest account in the smb.conf file. It turns out that if I enter my username, everything is OK. Thanks for helping me with everything, I was stuck at this for quite a long time.
