Backlit Trackpad / Alps Dualpoint functionality?

This is my first post on the forums, I normally have no problem finding answers to all my questions on here, but this one has me stumped. I have a Gateway ID49C07u "Ultrabook" from 2010, and have gotten 90% done with my current build of arch. The 2 things that I can't seem to find help here or on other forums for other distros are:

1.) The main issue is trackpad issues. I can't seem to get my buttons to work 2 out of 3 times i click them. like i have to right click 3 times, sometimes to get it to come up. also tap only works on the basic standard ps/2 mouse driver. the synaptics driver doesnt allow it even if i add it to 10-synaptics.conf, but it works with the scroll on the right edge. So basically its one or the other.

2.) my laptop has a backlit trackpad; or maybe its considered a click pad.. its very similar to the apple glass track pad, the whole thing clicks left or right; either way i can't get the pad to light up and stay lit, only comes on during boot and when i suspend the machine and start it back up.. it supposedly works all the time that you touch it in windows 7/vista and had a setting gui, but since ive owned it, the laptop has never had anything but Archlinux (GDE DM) on it..

if anyone is willing to help, let me know what program dumps you need info from and ill post them.

Thanks,
Jinx
