Atheros AR9285 denied association with wireless access point.

Since I updated 12 days ago, the wireless isn't working on my laptop. I just upgraded to the latest kernel (3.3.6), and still have the same problem.

I have an Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

dmesg:
[   84.121168] wlan0: authenticate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (try 1)
[   84.124133] wlan0: authenticated
[   84.131893] wlan0: associate with xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx: (try 1)
[   84.135572] wlan0: RX AssocResp from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (capab=0x411 status=46 aid=0)
[   84.135582] wlan0: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx denied association (code=46)

Re: Atheros AR9285 denied association with wireless access point.

[  84.135572] wlan0: RX AssocResp from xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx (capab=0x411 status=46 aid=0)

If I'm reading the source code (net/mac80211/mlme.c) and the 802.11-2007 spec (section 7.3.1.9) correctly... and that's a huge "if" (so you've been warned wink )... a "46" for the status code in the Association Response from an AP means:

Cipher suite rejected because of security policy

I'm not sure exactly what that means in your environment, but perhaps that may help.

FYI: A "Cipher Suite" in 802.11 is typically things like WEP, TKIP, CCMP, etc.

Also see:

Perhaps the Networking, Server, and Protection section might have been better place for this issue.

Awesome, thanks for that.

I'll have to do a bit more research on that, and find out what that actually means.

Nah, I can't find anything about this. Has anyone had the same problem? If it makes any difference, the encryption on the router was recently changed from AES to TKIP. Every other wireless device I have seems to have coped fine, bit not this. Changing back to AES "fixed" the problem. Odd.
