[SOLVED] Bitlbee: Twitter log in doesn't work with 0Auth

I recently started using Bitlbee with weechat and irssi. I have been able to use gtalk and facebook with no issues whatsoever. However, I have been unable to log into Twitter using the 0Auth method. I've looked everywhere for research such as the bitlbee wiki for Twitter and arch wiki for bitlbee and I have had no success in finding a solution to the problem.

When I add the twitter account and then turn the account on root says it is requesting the 0Auth token but nothing happens it just sticks there trying to connect with no response from Twitter. I wonder if this may be a problem with my system's network configuration (maybe whatever is related to 0Auth authentication). All of the other applications I use don't have this problem. I assume others have this problem but I have little or no input on this specific issue, so I am not sure what I need to look for. I want to know how to fix this issue because I want to know if this may point to a different problem related to the network or configuration in my system.

Can anyone actually log into Twitter from Bitlbee? If so, please show me your configuration. Namely /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf. Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Bitlbee: Twitter log in doesn't work with 0Auth

Just tried and worked fine here. The only thing that threw me for a minute was that weechat opened a new buffer in response to my 'account add twitter firecat53 password' command...so at first it looked like nothing actually happened because the buffer window didn't change automatically.

edit: My /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf is completely default (everything commented out) except I have a Proxy line:

Proxy = socks5://localhost:4567

Re: [SOLVED] Bitlbee: Twitter log in doesn't work with 0Auth

hmm, interesting. So if it didn't change the buffer then where did you access the token from?

Also I have this for the same section... I wonder what is going on here?

[server]
freenode.addresses = "chat.freenode.net/6667"
freenode.proxy
freenode.ipv6
freenode.ssl
freenode.ssl_cert
freenode.ssl_priorities
freenode.ssl_dhkey_size
freenode.ssl_verify
freenode.password
freenode.capabilities
freenode.sasl_mechanism
freenode.sasl_username
freenode.sasl_password
freenode.sasl_timeout
freenode.autoconnect
freenode.autoreconnect
freenode.autoreconnect_delay
freenode.nicks
freenode.username
freenode.realname
freenode.local_hostname
freenode.command
freenode.command_delay
freenode.autojoin
freenode.autorejoin
freenode.autorejoin_delay
freenode.connection_timeout
freenode.anti_flood_prio_high
freenode.anti_flood_prio_low
freenode.away_check
freenode.away_check_max_nicks
freenode.default_msg_part
freenode.default_msg_quit
freenode.notify

Re: [SOLVED] Bitlbee: Twitter log in doesn't work with 0Auth

Just switched to the new buffer window (Alt-7 in my case) and copy/pasted the token into my browser. It just didn't switch to that buffer automatically...the buffer was still there, though. When you do find the token URL, just type in whatever PIN the website gives you into that same new buffer where you see the token. It then opens another new buffer with your twitter account.

I only posted the bitlbee portion of my irc.conf...I also have entries for freenode and oftc just like you do.

I finally got it working thanks alot Scott.

Basically, I didn't know about how to change the buffer. I just hit Alt+a and went to that website and then everything worked just fine.
