just wanted to let people know that for some configurations at least, the latest update to the cups package (last week for my system) causes a high level of network traffic to local network print servers (which will probably show up in that system's logs). one can fix the issue by using the cups gui (localhost:631 in a web browser), selecting the administration tab, and then selecting to use the default config file(s).
