[SOLVED] Weird black shade on desktop

Sometimes when i open an application, this weird black shade appears. It always appears in the exact same spot,
which is the upper left corner of the left monitor. When I close the application that caused this the shade dissappears.
I use openbox and the nvidia drivers.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird black shade on desktop

So, what is the application that casues it? Or is it different ones? Are you using xcompmgr? How big is the shadow in relation to the rest of the screen? Could it be a tray that has a bad shadow?

No, it's not a specific application.
I use xcompmgr and the shadow is about ~1/4 of the screen, maybe less.
Could you explain the last one?

Re: [SOLVED] Weird black shade on desktop

I remember vaguely that I once used a system tray application (eg stalonetray) and had a similar problem (an empty tray that cast a shadow over half the desktop).

The only applications that have a tray icon are dropbox, skype and xchat. Could it be one of them?

What is the tray application you are using? Try closing it and see if it helps. If that's not it, I have no other idea, sorry.

Re: [SOLVED] Weird black shade on desktop

Other xcompmgr users have reported a similar bug -- try disabling xcompmgr.

You're welcome -- if it comes back try stopping then restarting xcompmgr...
