[SOLVED] tmpfs??

Hi,

I have a /tmp mounted in tmpfs and I have 3G allotted to it.  My question is, does tmpfs grow to fill the 3GB, or does it allocate all 3GB and make it unavailalbe for system use?  If I'm not using all 3GB of /tmp, can other processes use that unused memory?

EDIT: http://www.funtoo.org/wiki/Funtoo_Files … de,_Part_3
This helped a lot in my understanding of tmpfs

Re: [SOLVED] tmpfs??

I have 5,5 gig and df -h tells me:

/dev 2,7G 0 2,7G 0% /dev
run 2,7G 364K 2,7G 1% /run
shm 2,7G 288K 2,7G 1% /dev/shm
tmpfs 4,0G 128K 4,0G 1% /tmp

So the memory seems to be available for the system. Also, I don't see how your system is going to use a large amount of memory if it isn't via /tmp.
