export thunderbird mailboxes

hi people,
I wonder if there is an application-independant format to save emails; for instance I'd like to move items from a thunderbird mailbox to a sylpheed account.

So far the only way I know is through an IMAP account, which is slow, bandwidth-consuming and ... uncool.

If you have any ideas...

I don't know about application-independent, but if you're looking for a one-way export/import operation, sylpheed can import thunderbird's mbox format.

IMAP uncool? You're definition of cool must be very different to mine... smile
