Since the last time I updated (more than a week ago to be fair, I haven't had time to debug this yet), my thinkpad x220 has been unable to boot into arch. It just hangs when loading the laptop-mode module and sits there at [BUSY] forever. I tried searching the forums and did not turn up anything relevant. Nor did the laptop-mode wiki page. Anyone else had this issue before? At this point I'm thinking I can maybe chroot into my install and attempt to forcibly remove and reinstall the package from the arch live CD, but I'll wait to see if someone suggests something else. Thanks for any help.
EDIT :
Upstream bug. Solution for now is to disable laptop-mode when on battery...

Yup. I have this same problem. I removed it from DAEMONS. Strangely enough, it starts fine (takes longer than usual) when starting it manually.
I used a trick to edit rc.conf. At boot when on GRUB, press e to edit. Change the root device to something else then boot. Boot will fail, and it will leave you to a VERY limited shell.
Then mount your root partition by hand to somewhere using 'mount'. Then use vi to edit rc.conf and remove the laptop-mode from DAEMONS.
Using vi isn't like using normal text editor so be sure to know how to use it or click here and choose the one that fits best for you. ![]()
I have stumbled into "dead" daemons at bootup before. I think I would be wise to create even more plain fallback mode menu entry to GRUB. Other thing would be to be able to boot init scripts with interactive mode (user gets to choose which things to start and which not).

I don't understand what just happened. I just reinstalled windoze on another partition so I had to reinstall grub from the arch live cd. I intended to also remove laptop-mode from the daemons but forgot to do it and rebooted. For some reason it doesn't hang at boot any more even though all I did was reinstall the boot-loader. Strange...

I wonder if this if somehow related to my other problem... O.o
Strange thing indeed.

Maybe... I used to have that but it was very long time ago. Must have went away with updates... The other weird one I have that seems related to laptop-mode is that if I "sudo poweroff" it will always reboot instead.

Hm. Do you happen to use Think Pad? Think Pads have that problem, but it's fixable.

Yea. It's a thinkpad x220.

Yea. It's a thinkpad x220.
There's some topics about it, but this one is marked [SOLVED].

It just hangs when loading the laptop-mode module and sits there at [BUSY] foreve
If you use the battery level polling module you are affected by a stupid bug in its helper https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/29980

You need to install an RTFM interface.

Ah! This is precisely it. Thank you anrxc. It's doing it again now, and the moment it magically stopped happening yesterday was when I plugged it into the AC to install windoze.

I guess this is then [SOLVED]..?
