[SOLVED] Software installation - unable to extract files

Hi, and thanks in advance for any help provided. Last night, I tried setting up a brand new Arch install, but got stuck at the software installation phase. In summary:
- Pacman and system logs indicate that it's unable to extract downloaded packages where needed.
- Permissions seem to be fine & I'm a root user (installation CD defaults).
- I tried upgrading pacman, which was doable after a few quick fixes and generating keys for secure package download. The current .iso image is rather behind the times.
- Pacman is fully able to install software in the live environment (tested with installing Links).
- I'm using netinstall dual-architecture .iso image on a USB stick.
- I haven't manually changed any permissions in system; during the disk setup phase I chose to reformat the partitions with the following options: -T ext4/small/largefile/news (depending on the partition) -m 0.5

My pacman.log can be found here (1.1 MB). Please let me know if I should provide any other logs/information.

Is /usr on a separate partition?

And you have made all the relevant adjustments?

Re: [SOLVED] Software installation - unable to extract files

It's also covered here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mk … _partition

But it doesn't say:

2) [...] This needs to go _before_ autodetect if your /usr is a different FS from your root.

Should the wiki be updated?

Oh, and whenever you edit the "/etc/mkinitcpio.conf" file (ie. add "... shutdown fsck usr" to the HOOKS line), don't forget to regenerate your initramfs image!

# mkinitcpio -p linux

Re: [SOLVED] Software installation - unable to extract files

Thanks for the information, but I'm not sure if it's relevant to this particular case - the /arch/setup script doesn't let me edit the config files if I'm not done with installing packages, and that's exactly where I'm currently stuck. The script (through Pacman) won't install anything completely because something is apparently holding it back from successfully copying/extracting the files.

Perhaps I hadn't made it clear enough that I'm not done with the install yet - the system hasn't been fully set up. The PC this is affecting is currently running the Arch live/install image of an USB drive. I've been hoping of resolving the issue without making a restart and aborting the installation, but if there are pointers that it should be for the better, I can do that, of course.

[edit #1] I tried to create a few sample files in the /usr partition, but they reported the partition as being full. Not sure why is that, but I will try re-creating the partitions and trying installing Arch again.

[edit #2] I ended up rebooting, flushing all the partitions and installing the system again. Seems to be working now, although I'm unsure about the exact cause of the sudden filling of the /usr partition.
