Scandisk on fat/ntfs possible?

Is there a way to run something like scandisk on fat32 or ntfs partition without booting to Windows?
I know I could mount a USB drive within XP virtual machine, but this is not possible for SD cards in a built-in reader.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_ScanDisk

On Unix-like systems there are tools like "fsck_msdosfs" to do the same task.

However, ScanDisk cannot check NTFS disk drives, and therefore it is unavailable for computers that may be running NT based (including Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.) versions of Windows; for the purpose, a newer CHKDSK is provided instead--this is not to be confused with the older MS-DOS CHKDSK.

fsck.vfat works.
fsck.ntfs is next to useless.
