Trouble setting up HP printer

Hello folks.I have a hard time trying to install an HP Deskjet 640c printer on Arch.

The printer is connected to the pc via the parallel port. I have installed all the drivers mentioned in the wiki ,i ve added myself to the lp group.
I 've setup the printer using the hp-setup utility. The connection URL is hp:/par/DESKJET_640C?device=/dev/parport0 and the driver in use is hpijs

I keep getting the following error

"/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed"

However if i type in the console echo "test" > /dev/lp0 the printer actually works!

What is going wrong ?

Have you tried cups web interface? Have you been in sys group?

Adding myself to sys group did n't solved the problem.

As for the cups web interface cups is unable to find the printer when i click Administration ,Find New Printers and i do not know how to manually install the printer because i have no idea what the printer's connection URI is.

Both gcc and cupsd.conf do exist in the filesystem!I don't know hp-check fails to find them!
