Hi,
Since last night i have not been able to access my xfce desktop. all i get is a gray background and a mouse cursor. i dont see any panels. neither the app panel or the deskbar. i know its not because of any recent updates or any no. of customisations i tried because it worked fine after a previous reboot.
The gray background has existed since about 1 day after installation (roughly 2 weeks ago) and it started after i tried a new wallpaper and rebooted the system. Since then i havent been able to set a wallpaper. i have generally ignored it because it doesnt interfere with my work and i have gotten used to it.
could someone help me? xfce doesnt have any default keyboard shortcuts that i know of and so i am basically dead in the water.

[disclaimer] I do not use Xfce, but I know several people who do and have reported similar problems [/disclaimer]
Can you log in at another console (ctrl-alt-f2)? If you can, try deleting these two folders entirely:
~/.cache/sessions/
~/.config/xfce4/
and then reboot. If that does not help, try reinstalling Xfce.
There is more information in the wiki here.

Only removing ~/.cache/sessions/ did the trick for me (on Linux Mint). Keeping all settings.
