[SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

I'm trying to make a good xorg.conf.d directory for this configuration

My configuration

Ecran 1 (DVI) -- Ecran 2 (HDMI) -     - Ecran 3 (VGA) -- Ecran 4 (DVI)
|                                                 |         |                                         |
|____________________________|         |_______________________|
     Card : Nvidia 9600GT                       Card : ATI
     Resolution : Both 1920x1080           Resolution : Both 1280x1024

What I already tried

First
I found this link http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MultiMonitorDesktop

And I tried this configuration

Section "ServerLayout"

but I had this log

And I succeed to make all the screens works but monitors on the same card was cloned.
I succeed to make them works with Arandr next to each others but I had a strange bug (because of Xinerama I think)
Well, I don't know what to do.. If somebody know how to make it works.. !
Thank you !

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

I don't think you can use ATI and Nvidia cards simultaneously. Not unless you have a motherboard equipped with one of those Lucid Hydra chipsets. You will need to pick one and disable the other from the BIOS (usually the weaker one, from the slower PCIe slot). My advice is to sell them both and buy the cheapest ATI that can output 4-way Eyefinity. Or, you know, donate the older monitors to a school or something.

What do you need so much screen real estate for, anyway? Two widescreen monitors are more than enough side by side.

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

It isn't really useful but like every geek, I want to succeed this challenge tongue And I think it's funny to have 4 screens !

And it may be possible because I did it with arandr (with some bug caused to Xinerama, but I did !)

But thanks anyway !

Yes, it's hilarious. It's exactly what I need at night: more light to keep me awake. Not to mention additional power consumption for screens I would barely even look at. But ok... Have it your way. Don't forget to mark it as solved (by editing the first post). And say a few words on how you did it, in case someone else (including yourself sometimes) may find useful.

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

Don't stress ! I didn't say that I will keep it, it's just for fun ! I agree with you that it's not realy useful !

But I didn't succeed to do want I wanted : make a good xorg.conf !
Now, I'm just able to make it works with Arandr (and with a lot of bug because of Xinerama)

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

Are you going to say what the "strange bug" is? I think the configuration at the top of your post is okay except you mention Screen 0 and Screen 1 twice in the device sections. Wouldn't you have to put Screen 0, Screen 1, Screen 2 and Screen 3?

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

This strange bug is when I move the mouse from the screen 2 (Nvidia Card) to the screen 3 (ATI card), the mouse appears on the screen 4 (ATI card).
To have the mouse on the screen 3, Ihave to move it to the screen 4 on the screen 3..

And it's the same probleme when I move from the ATI card to the Nvidia Card !

I will try to change my the first configuration.. but it's strange to have

[  2261.702] (==) No monitor specified for screen "Screen2".
   Using a default monitor configuration.

while I specified it in the device section... !

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

You're still under the impression that you can use both ATI and Nvidia cards at the same time. Both manufacturers have added restrictions against this, in the cards' BIOS. They are not meant to work together. Not unless you have a motherboard equipped with a Lucid Hydra chipset that can bridge them together (tho scaling pretty much sucks versus a pure SLI or Crossfire setup).

I'm not sure that the "nouveau" and "radeon" developers have even tested mixed manufacturer setups like this, since there are issues even with the same model multiple cards. Have you seen the feature matrix for both drivers? Take a look at the radeon multicard support:

http://www.x.org/wiki/RadeonFeature
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix

Nouveau is looking a little better... The ATI card is probably just piggybacking on it.

Re: [SOLVED]Complicated Xorg.conf

If I can use them with Arandr, why couldn't I use them automatically in my xorg.conf.d ?
I know that with proprietary drivers, it's impossible.. But with free drivers, I think it's possible ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … phics_card "Nouveau + radeon )
My motherboard is a P7P55D and there isn't any Lucid Hydra chipset.
Yes, radeon don't seems to support it.. But they are talking about multi cards from the same manufacturers, no ?
