xscreensaver question

Does anyone know how to manually change the size of the font setting for a user in .xscreensaver?

The default is line in my .xscreensaver is
font         *-medium-r-*-140-*-m-*

I am using gltext and would like to make the standard font much smaller in order to fit more text in one display.

I have tried a couple of things [ changing 140 to 120 or medium to small] but no recognisable difference.

Does anyone know how the syntax for this line works?

I could not find any reference to the syntax in the man pages.

Re: xscreensaver question

Try xfontsel and you should begin to understand how that syntax works. Anyway, it's a nice app to select fonts with.

Re: xscreensaver question

Thanks for the help, but I'm afraid I don't understand much of this stuff.

From the xfontsel manpage i've discovered that the *-m-* is a monospace delimiter [but what other options are there to choose from?].

I presume the 140 refers to 14 point size font.
Given that I am not sure what "medium" refers to.
And I haven't got a clue what "-r-" means.

Can you help with these?

I was also hoping to find out what the alternatives are to each parameter or where I might find them.

Xfontsel didn't seem to me to have any options that matched the specifications in the font line I have.
