raid setup

im trying to mount my new array that is located at /dev/mapper/VolGroupArray-backup  (/dev/md0)
what i did was i partitioned it using gdisk (its a GPT table), i used the max allowable space, then i chose the filesystem type FreeBSD,
now i cant mount it, and i dont know how to set teh mount -t type a504, or FreeBSD ZFS

on a side note;
am i not able to create a

# zpool create pool disk /dev/md0

? i thought this would be the easy way to create a ZFS raid span (linear)
