Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

This is very weird you guys.

I have had no problems whatsoever after downgrading xf86-input-synaptics and I was having a crash every 20-24 hours like clockwork. Since you keep having crashes, can you post the backtrace of X so we may investigate?

Not suspending by closing the lid is definitely *NOT* an acceptable solution.

True. But as a workaround it works. Also, i do occasionally pm-suspend by closing the lid (while fetching the event with acpid): I haven't had crashes yet. But since it is my work laptop, I prefer to circumvent the problem, rather than having to face all my work disappear... (I do occasianlly get the related problem that after resuming from suspend, the screen becomes three quarters black, and one quarter just colored noise. I can generally alleviate this by keystroking the system into suspend again and resume once more)

So, clearly, the problem with either the xf86 intel driver and/or synaptics driver are not completely solved yet. However, the simple workaround of keystroking (is this actually a verb?) my laptop into pm-suspend and closing the lid 2 seconds later, at least makes my computer a usable system again....

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

My problem is different -- If I close the lid both pm-suspend and systemd kick in so when I open the lid it wakes up, goes back to sleep and I need to press the power button to wake it up again.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

FYI, there is a patch over in debian-land, submitted yesterday, that sounds like the same thing:
  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=681796

... perhaps this will fix the problem?

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52496

Seems to have made it into the upstream version. You should now be able to upgrade your input-synaptics without it crashing again. I haven't tested this yet, though.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

I saw the update to the synaptics package today. I haven't had any issues at all since I
1. Downgraded synaptics
2. Moved to systemd.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

Unfortunately, arch did not include this patch
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver … ca508e5b5b
when it repackaged xf86-input-synaptics and since the latest release is 1.6.2 CONTAINING the bug this is what we got
(yes, I experienced it again (systemd here, too), albeit after 2.5 days of uptime and without the moon led flashing but my X session was again lost).

So, in order to get rid of the frigging thing once and for all, use the abs system to pull xf86-input-synaptics, apply this patch yourself, build the package and install.
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver … ca508e5b5b

No problems since!

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

If you updated recently, arch pushed another package release still containing the bug. So, either wait for the next version (which should be coming shortly) or do it again on the latest arch package.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

Thank you so much for this thread.  This problem was really annoying.  BTW, I'm on lenovo t400s (intel graphics of course).  I'm downgrading xf86-input-synaptics to 1.5.99.902-1 as suggested.  I hope it works.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

After downgrading xf86-input-synaptics to 1.5.99.902-1 my touchpad was not working so I went back to 1.6.2-4.  I guess my problem is not solved yet.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

Yes, the downgrade will now not work since the new xserver depends on the newer synaptics.

If you are not comfortable deploying your own package using the ABS as I described in my previous posts, then wait just a bit: xf86-input-synaptics version 1.6.3 has just been tagged according to http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver … synaptics/ and hopefully Arch will include it soon. 1.6.3 already contains the fix responsible for your crashes.

Re: [SOLVED]Linux3.4 broke resume/suspend some of the times in Lenovo T420

Hello
I'm sorry but for me the problem still exists. I'have got a Medion Laptop with Intel graphics. The packages xf86-input-synaptics and xf86-video-intel are up to date.
