Hey folks,
im having problems watching videos over a network-connection.
When i open a video on a network-share via smb / vlc i get the following error message:
VLC kann die MRL 'smb://pc_name/directory/Scrubs%20-%20S03E02.avi' nicht öffnen.
I don't know weather there
* is a problem with the smb password / authentification (also i don't think so)
* or vlc doesn't knwo where the file is, because it doesn't know how to process the "smb://" (as far as i know thats a kio term)
Thanks for any advice!

Just tried it out on my VLC, it uses gvfs to access files on the network.
I have two packages: gvfs & gvfs-smb
I also increased the buffer to 3000 ms from 1000ms since occasionally it would stutter.
There might be another way to have VLC access smb files, smbfs maybe? But I haven't tried that out.

I installed the packages you've mentioned, but i'm still getting the same message.
I don't know, but would a nfs share be the better solution to stream media?
€: ok this did the trick:
# mount -t cifs //SERVER/SHARENAME MOUNTPOINT -o user=USERNAME,password=PASSWORD,workgroup=WORKGROUP,ip=SERVERIP

I have run into the exact same problem. Everything worked fine two days ago, now I am not able to play any video files from my NAS with VLC. I am able to browse content on my NAS using nemo and I can also open Pictures but I am not able to play any Video files. Does anyone have any suggestions? The problem in this post has just a workaround but no solution.
