Canon Smartbase mpc190 pixma inkjet drivers...?

It's an old multifunctional, but I'd be glad to get it to print because it's cartridges are very cheap. Neither CUPS, nor lpinfo -v seems to be able to see the printer, yet lsusb is positive it's there. Digging around this I've seen someone claim that it works with MP180 drivers. Now the AUR is full with canon drivers like the following,

aur/cups-canon-3.00 3.00-4 (24)
    Canon iP3600, iP4600, MP630, MP540, MP240, MP190 and iP1900 CUPS drivers

but I run into this

Dependency `xz-utils' of `cups-canon-3.00' does not exist.

and the others I tried simply make no difference. Any help appreciated.

Re: Canon Smartbase mpc190 pixma inkjet drivers...?

lsusb shows any devices attached to the usb subsystem - cups will only see devices for which the correct drivers have been installed.

xz-utils was replaced by xz, so change the PKGBUILD as required.

This is a bit vague - more details might get you a better answer.

It never gives me the opportunity to do so.

I really don't know anymore... I tried several. Some installed, like gutenprint, others fail. I hope they don't conflict or something. I read somewhere in the wiki that I might need to blacklist usblp. I'm about to do that now.

USB printers under CUPS 1.4.x

New CUPS 1.4.x introduces many changes:
Blacklisting usblp

CUPS now uses libusb and printer USB devices (under /dev/bus/usb/) instead of the usblp generated /dev/usb/lpX ones. In order to get USB printers working, the usblp module needs disabling. Some users have also reported that they needed to reinstall their printer.

/etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

blacklist usblp

then later in the same wiki:

CUPS now uses libusb and printer USB devices (under /dev/bus/usb/) instead of the usblp generated /dev/usb/lpX ones. In order to get USB printers working, the usblp module needs disabling. Some users have also reported that they needed to reinstall their printer.

So now it says it needs disabling... If that's the case and I need to reinstall things, it really doesn't matter what I already tried...

Trying to search for PIXMA I tried these two:
20 aur/cnijfilter-mp210 2.80-1 (5)
Canon PIXMA MP210 printing driver for CUPS

22 aur/scangearmp 1.00-2 (4)
Canon Scanner Driver (For PIXMA MP510 and possibly other Canon scanners)

they both end up in:

==> Starting build()...

The build failed.

So it's a bit of a mess...

Edit:

pacman -Qs canon
local/cndrvcups-common 2.40-5
Common printer driver modules for Canon printers
local/cnijfilter-common270 2.70-4
Canon IJ Printer Driver (Common package from version 2.70)

Then clearly it sucks. If only we knew what it was.

If you know how to use a text editor, you can edit the PKGBUILD, and then build the package in the normal way.

Re: Canon Smartbase mpc190 pixma inkjet drivers...?

You're right. There's makepkg.

==> ERROR: bin64.tar.xz was not found in the build directory and is not a URL.

and indeed,

source=("http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/6/0100001606/01/cnijfilter-common-3.00-1.tar.gz" "bin64.tar.xz" "cups-ppd.patch")

I looked for it in the repo and AUR and with find / -iname bin64.tar.xz, and even here http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/6/010000160 … n64.tar.xz and google and I can't find it.

Edit: I even looked in the archive itself... does anyone know where it is ?

Re: Canon Smartbase mpc190 pixma inkjet drivers...?

Is this your very first time using the AUR? Or just your first time using it without a helper?

Either way, you need to read all about it.
