Those, and a few other threads seem to explain that "AIF" is basically ditched in favour of the Arch Installer Scripts.  I just found that out today too,

I'm a linux newbie, so my apologies. I tried to install Arch before and I had similar feedback when I tried to use unetbootin to boot from a flash drive.

Instead I used ImageWriter from OpenSUSE to burn the net install iso directly to a usb drive.

Just tried that last night and worked flawlessly.

If this has nothing to do with your question, then just ignore me, sorry, I don't really know anything.

Ah yes, thanks alphaniner. I was actually on windows when I made it, didn't realize the wiki talks about that.

I just used image writer for windows. But using dd is good too, I erroneously assumed that the OP was using windows. I'm guessing dd does the same thing.

So OP, I might suggest just using a USB drive, and whatever system you are on, just follow the wiki and write the iso directly to USB. It worked for me.

The easiest is probably to install from the normal netinstall iso (and use the beginners guide).
