lirc with 3.4.4

I can't get lirc to work after upgrading to latest kernel 3.4.x. The lirc archwiki cals for adding this  echo lirc > /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols but rc0/protocols does not exist. How do I enable lirc with 3.4. kernel
