NVidia issue with m17x r3 3D Screen

I have the m17x r3 with 3d. The GPU is an Nvidia 460M.
It doesnt use nvidia optimus ,the DIsplay is connected directly to GPU (internally) through the eDP port.
My brightness controls dont work using nouveau. The keys are getting detected and i can see the values changing in
/sys/class/backlight but the brightness doesnt change.
Under nvidia binary drivers , I am able to toggle between the last 3 brightness levels and it hurts my eyes.

Please help me fix the issue
