What's wrong with my desktop(in xfce)?

I find my desktop is no longer there!?

Now my desktop disapears include the xfce menu.
But the xfce panel and the taskbar are as usual.
Actually, except the desktop and the icons, and the wallpaper on it , everything runs well.
I don't know why.
Anyone tell me how can I find the problem?

Re: What's wrong with my desktop(in xfce)?

It seems that xfdesktop crashed for some reason, and then you saved the session when leaving.

Just run 'xfdekstop' from the run menu or a terminal and save the session when leaving. It should do the trick

If you use nautilus, then maybe it took charge of your desktop at some point. Try running nautilus and see if this fixes it.

Re: What's wrong with my desktop(in xfce)?

Yeah, Xfce4's desktop has no icons or the ability to have them which is awesome, so you must have run nautilus before.

Actually, the latest xffm allows icons on the desktop. In the future, thunar will as well.

You can either run nautilus --no-desktop or set a preference in gconf so that nautilus won't show the desktop. I forget the exact preference offhand though.

Re: What's wrong with my desktop(in xfce)?

you can permanently set this using gconf.
Don't know extactly how, though, I just overheard this in the XFCE chatroom.

Re: What's wrong with my desktop(in xfce)?

i had similar.
maybe try start a new session instead of the default one.  shutdown, use "save settings", restart and login.after startxfce4  choose the new session u just created. should get you a desktop back.

Re: What's wrong with my desktop(in xfce)?

maybe try here

and also make sure you have the correct files for using the environment of your choice.

otherwise have a look round the WIKI pages. they cover a few DE's.

Yes, I have read the page.
I run:

exec /usr/bin/fluxbox

But I still get the error message about can't cannect display ''
maybe my xorg.conf is not configed correctly, but I cant find the problem.

I've just upgraded from XFce 4.4 to 4.4.1-1 and after xfdesktop return a "Segmentation Fault". So I've no icons on my desktop and no main menu.
What's wrong? Is it possible to revert packages to previous version?
