[SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

Chromium crashes randomly on a variety of sites. It produces no errors, just a SEGFAULT. I found many threads here but they're old and the workaround of the nscd daemon did not work for me. My chromium is updated (version 20.0.1132.57-2). I will try to get strace output.

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

Same problem here:

In console:

[jonander@7thHeaven ~]$ chromium
[2454:2473:8888546331:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(489)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.kde.kwalletd was not provided by any .service files
[2454:2473:8888547364:ERROR:native_backend_kwallet_x.cc(175)] Error contacting kwalletd (isEnabled)
[2454:2473:8889144343:ERROR:object_proxy.cc(489)] Failed to call method: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
[2454:2473:8889145957:ERROR:native_backend_kwallet_x.cc(175)] Error contacting kwalletd (isEnabled)
Segmentation fault

Works fine until suddenly.... boom! Segmentation fault

Happens on both 32 and 64 bit..... also happens in my laptop.... so i don't think it's config related unless having KDE in both could affect anything...

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

I've been getting the same on my system. As well as crashes with Konqueror (using webkit engine) and Rekonq. I also tried removing Flash. I'm using KDE. I was about to do some memory tests, but I'm glad to hear others are having issues too, hopefully its not hardware related.

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

Oh I finally got it (strace output). Now I'm gonna to try gdb.

$ strace -o st_out chromium
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Segmentation fault

But where do I upload the output? It's 51 MB! May it be related to nvidia? As far as I know I don't have a nvdia card!
In the meantime, I found this (it's from multiple crashes):

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

I'm not a 100% sure right now but it seems the last update (21.0.1180.57-1) combined with clearing ~/.config/chromium and ~/.cache/chromium solved the random crashes for me. can somebody confirm that?

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

Having exactly same problem, Chromium latest version on 64 bit Arch

I cleared cache and Chromium folder as suggested, it got better for 2 days but now it's just as bad as before and actually making it impossible to use as it just closes down without any warning, most commonly while opening a new tab and entering URL or while doing some javascript/JSON work

This has to be fixed, it's coming to the point of being impossible to use Chromium :-/

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

Is this happening with chromium compiled on your current system? Can anyone confirm this bug with the chromium-dev package from aur? I couldn't get it to compile myself.

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

I'm actually still able to reproduce this issue on lastest Arch 64 with the latest chromium -- even after clearing ~/.cache and ~/.config/chromium.  My workaround for now has been to run the google-chrome binary package instead.  Is this issue still affecting anyone else?

This was about Chromium. I have no issue at all! Maybe you should open a new topic.

Re: [SOLVED] Chromium crashes randomly

I could make a new topic, but I'm having the exact same issue described in this topic with chromium  21.0.1180.79-1 (i was merely mentioning that the issue is present for me in chrome as well fwiw)
