Re: Archlinux Installation Guide with Screenshots based on media 20120804

I find it a bit confusing. As far as I can tell:
- for parted, you set the system up for EFI boot with partition type EF00 but you use ext2 for the filesystem which won't work for this case;
- for gdisk, you set the partitions up for neither EFI nor BIOS boot.
Very likely I've missed something but you might in any case want to make clear the differences here.

@cfr

your post strucked me from out of the blue!

with these guides, i am trying to give alternative examples of how using your favorite tool to create your partition table (GPT or MSDOS).
In the process i've learned a few things my self.

reading about parted and writing the guide, i didnt realized that "set boot on" changes the partition type from Microsoft basic data (0700) to EFI System (EF00)

That said i must admit that at this time i lack the knowledge to respond properly.

This whole thread is a testament of how can ppl ridiculously complicate things in the most embarrassing way. I don't know who's damaged idea was it, but the level of anger and frustration the current state of afairs caused in me is enormous.
Reinstalling arch was never a problem for me but with the recent "global" changes took place, it all went downwards.

Now explain me, why the <redacted> does the installer need the correct label for usb drive? And that it should be exactly ARCH_201208? What is that piece of excuse is install.txt, who wrote that? How is a sane person supposed to install this without having an internet connection? What steps do I follow? Oh, I'm sorry do I need explicitly search for this thread? What point of those changes if they produce pages of tutorials and workarounds? First /lib issuse, not this iso embarrassment. Whoever did this to us deserves a good slap and <redacted> I mean it.

@tasty_minerals,
May I direct your attention to the  Forum Etiquette, especially perhaps the Do Not Flame rule?

Please remember that the people who develop Arch do so in their own time. If you think you can do better, you are obviously welcome to fork the distro or, better, to contribute positively to development of code or documentation. Venting your frustrations here in that manner will just get you banned...

I think this thread has run its course.  Closed.
