[systemd] table of daemon equivalence initscripts/systemd

Hi all,

I have reworked the table at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Da … of_Daemons. Phew! A lot of work, but it will help people who want to do the transition, as some service names are not that straightforward between the two system managers. Furthermore, systemd has deprecated some initscript daemons (handling them automatically), or has changed their names or structure, sometimes splitting in several names.

I noticed some packages have no systemd service implemented yet, which I noted on the table. Noticeably, some of them are important ones: Apache (httpd), MySQL and Postgresql, Timidity++, etc... It would be nice that all packages from core and extra get systemd service files when applicable.

A weird thing is that gdm.service is in systemd-arch-units, whereas kdm.service, slim.service, etc... are in their own packages. Why is it so?

I'll edit the rest of the page later to present both initscripts and systemd (but in a very concise way, this is being described in the rc.conf and systemd wiki pages already).

Please let me know what you think, how this could be improved, if this should be merged with other pages and if you see errors.

I like the table. For apache and mysql you could link to this page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Systemd/Services
Edit: As for mysql, the mariadb package contains a service file which could also be compatible with mysql.

For systemd-arch-units, see the systemd-arch-units dissolution todo task.

Thanks, I'll do a note. I guess these will be included in the packages in the future?

Isn't `pacman -Ql <pkgname>` sufficient? Why do we need to maintain a list of files that will eternally be incomplete and/or out of date? The vast majority of units belong to their respective packages now.

It is (and this is what I put in the systemd wiki page), but the goal is to help people do the transition. Sometimes the daemon names are different and this may be helpful.

I'll add a note this does should not replace user proaction and that he should look for the units in the package.

moving from Arch Discussion to Forum & Wiki discussion
since this is more about articles in the wiki than Arch Linux
